Inter-Island Freight Disruption - February 12 2026
16 Feb 2026
Following recent severe weather conditions and associated Cook Strait ferry cancellations, inter-island freight movements between the North and South Islands are currently experiencing disruption.
Current Status
- North Island to South Island freight that departed on Friday travelled as scheduled prior to ferry cancellations and continues to move through the network as normal.
- Freight scheduled to depart this evening and potentially tomorrow may experience delays, subject to confirmation of available ferry sailings.
Expected Impact
- Possible short-term delays for northbound and southbound inter-island cargo
- Re-sequencing of freight once sailings resume
- Extended transit times depending on ferry capacity availability
We are closely monitoring ferry schedules and capacity updates and will advise as further clarity becomes available.
