VIC - Melbourne - Fog-Related Terminal Disruption Notice - May 22, 2026
22 May 2026
What's happening
Thick fog blanketing the Melbourne port precinct this morning, Friday 22 May 2026, is causing significant operational disruptions across multiple terminals.
Terminals affected
- DP World Melbourne (DPW) — Straddle operators are operating under additional safety protocols due to reduced visibility. Pre-gate and exit cameras are impaired, requiring manual processing and slowing transaction times at both inbound and outbound gates.
- 1ESD — Operations have ceased as of this morning. A resumption update will be issued when visibility permits.
- DPW Melbourne Container Park (MCP) — Closed until conditions improve.
- VICT — Gate transactions and in-block movements are both experiencing delays due to the fog.
Impact on your cargo
Container dehires may be affected. Where dehire is not possible due to terminal conditions, containers may need to be returned via the yard, which will attract additional charges. Please be aware that terminal operators are not accepting liability for detention charges incurred as a result of these delays.
If your containers are impacted, a member of the KLN Oceania team will be in contact directly.
What to do now
- Notify your warehouse, transport, and operations teams of potential delays today.
- If you have time-critical cargo moving through Melbourne terminals, contact your KLN Oceania representative to discuss options.
- We will provide updates as conditions change.
